Oymyakon – ver. 2024.
Still with plenty of time to spare on the return leg of our Yakutsk-Tiksi-Yakutsk expedition, what else could we check out along the way? Answering that was easy: Oymyakon – for the third time in as many years!…
Alas, there weren’t the -50°C winter-wonderland scenes we’d gotten used to on our previous two times here, for this time we were here late March:
Still, at least the weather was fine ->
We cruise a stretch of the Old Kolymsky Tract – the original Kolyma Highway – and take left toward Tomtor…
Reindeer – and a slay. Where’s Santa?! ->
Even in late-March – the road to Oymyakon sooo beautiful. They’ll probably widen and asphalt it soon – so if you fancy an analog lamp-amplifier experience – you’d better get there quick…
This bridge is an original. It’ll be replaced with a new one soon ->
And here we are again!…
…Back at the a Pole of Cold of the northern hemisphere – where the world’s coldest temperatures have been recorded ->
Suddenly we notice… a hitchhiker! No really! And when we stopped to have a chat and maybe find out how on earth that’s possible, we find out he’s from… India! No really! And he’s a video-blogger. No really! :)
Halo! ->
I won’t repeat what I’ve already told you on these here blog pages before about Oymyakon. Here are my tales from 2021 and 2022, in case you missed them.
If you fancy coming here and wonder where you’d stay – Tamara Yegorovna’s place is where:
And that was that: Oymyakon, ver. 2024 – done. Back to the Old Kolymsky Tract, which is mostly abandoned and in a sorry state of disrepair. All the m0re fun for us, then ). But more on that in the next post…
The rest of the pics from our Yakutsk-Tiksi-Yakutsk expedition are here.
