For a few Lao Kip – onto the Mekong for another boat trip!
Not sure why, but during this busy-busy… business-travel season, boat trips on Asia’s great rivers somehow keep dealing themselves into my hand. Yesterday I was telling you all about the amazing boat trip we took on the Pearl River at night; today I’m telling you about the contrasting impressions we got on the mighty Mekong near the town of Luang Prabang in Laos. The scenes on show there are no less colorful and no less contemplative – just in a very different way:
And a lot more down-to-earth here:

We boarded and off we popped. It looked very modest from the outside, but, boy, what a boat! Very nice indeed. It even had some nice chill-out music on with the volume low: perfect!
There was just enough room for us: all five of us )

The scenery from the Mekong was pretty soothing, the temperature was pushing 30°C, and the humidity was 82%. But it was still all peace and quiet, total chill mode, and great for inner meditation.

There were all sorts of things on show along the banks, too – a bit on the poor side, but interesting:
And other boats were sailing up and down the river:
Ah, this is the life!

It was just a shame the sunset wasn’t too spectacular. Never mind; can’t have everything!

And that was it – time to head back to the pier. If you can call it that :)

By the way, Laos was a new country for me – number 109 on my list of countries I’ve managed to visit!
