Ganalsky spikes, massive Benard cells, and a dip in Lake Tolmachova.

Onward – southward, from Bakening in the direction of Lake Tolmachova – where we were to stay overnight next…

The scenery – once again – magical:

The columnal structures you often get where there’s much volcanism are plentiful here ->

There’s long line of the columnals – aka Benard cells – caused by the cooling of a fat layer of viscous liquid (here – lava) ->

After 10 minutes choppering from Bakening – magically brutal cliff constructions ->

Apparently the peaks around here are a hit with rock climbers…

Awesome views of the Ganalsky spikes ->

A few more views, then onward we chopper…

Over there on the horizon – Opala volcano:

Assorted volcanistic views in all directions ->

We landed. Minutes later the drone took over snapping duties ->

The camping site where we stayed the night ->

Hardly a tropical resort, but eminently dippable! ->

Cozy ->

That’s all for today folks, but I’ll be back with more Kamchatka tales soon…

The rest of the photos from our Kamchatka-2024 trip are here.
